Places To See - Munnar

CSI Church
The history of this CSI church starts with Mrs
Eleanor Knight, wife of H.M Knight, the General Manager of the
plantation. She was buried here in 1894, and some other British people
were also buried in the area. Later, Knight made it a place of burial.
Formally consecrated on 15 April 1900, on Easter Day, the church was
built in black basalt. The church was sanctified in 1910.
The
church still has its earliest 14 rosewood pews. You can also see
antique chandeliers and brass plaques built in memory of influential
tea planters of the time.
The church was handed over to CSI
North Kerala Diocese in 1981 by the British when they left Munnar. It
is now the headquarters of the CSI Munnar Pastorate and has about 1,000
Tamil families and supports 18 outstation churches.
