Munnar Wildlife

Eravikulam National Park
It is a famous national park in
south India. Nilgiri Tahr, numbering over a thousand, is found in this
park. The Anamudi peak, the highest peak in south India, is situated in
it. With permission from the forest authorities you can go for nature
walks and treks within the park.
Although the major part of
the area is covered with grasslands, there are shola forests, too. The
forest receives heavy rains during both the monsoons. During winter
months of December-February, frost is quite a common phenomenon.
You
can find tiger, panther and wild dogs in the park. Civet cat, sloth
bear, Nilgiri langur, wild boar and jungle cat live in the
shola-covered areas. The Atlas moth, the largest of its kind in the
world, is seen in this park. You can visit the park between 7 a.m. and
6 p.m. It is closed during the monsoon.
